Last week we ended with: 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
Timothy is possibly concerned with the suffering of Paul that he will suffer imprisonment and possibly death

1. (V8) Do not be ashamed

a) Do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord
Nor of Paul’s imprisonment
Luke 9:26 “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.”
b) Share in the sufferings of for the gospel according to the power of God
If we never share our faith, is it because we don’t believe? Are e we ashamed? Or is it because we’re afraid to suffer ridicule?

2. (V9) Called with a Holy Calling

a) Holy means to be set apart
b) (Works do not save) The calling forbids us from trusting in our doings and turn us to Christ alone for salvation
Ephesians 2:8–9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
c) As He who called you is Holy, so you must be holy
1 Peter 1:16 “because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.””
Charles Spurgeon says this, “If you are living in sin, you are not called; but if you are truly Christ’s, you can say, “Nothing pains me so much as sin; I desire to be rid of it. Lord, help me to be holy.”
One hinderance that keeps people in bondage of sin is the lack of appreciation for what God has done for us in the work of Christ
